Go Green: Honeymoons and Gift Registries
Looking for an easy way to go green for your big day?
Look no further than your honeymoon. There are many destinations that consider themselves to be eco-tourism, but you don’t have to go to one of them to have a green honeymoon. Sandals and Beaches all inclusive resorts recently became Green Globe 21 Certified, a corporate sustainability certification that rewards resorts that take part in water conservation, energy management, water management, and the control of hazardous substances just to name a few. So relax in your all-inclusive Caribbean resort, and instead of renting a car, walk or take public transportation.
Another way to go green with your wedding? Your Registry. Make the decision to register for green products (or products made from environmentally friendly materials), they may cost a little more, but they are making a difference in the long run. Look for products with symbols that say, “Fair Trade Certified” “USDA Organic” “Global Organic Textile Standard” or something as little as “Made from recycled materials” and “energy efficient”.
Another great way to reduce the footprint of your wedding? Buy domestic. Choose products that are manufactured in the United States over those that are manufactured oversees- it cuts down on the shipping therefore reducing the amount of fuel and pollution.
I agree with going local and newly wed couples could even extend buying local to taking their honeymoon domestically. Save the overseas trip and explore your own backyard.
