VOW Magazine Real Wedding: Julia & Joseph

Photography by Caitlin Miller Photography

Proctors, pups, and so much love! Julia and Joseph rang in the New Year with a spectacular wedding at the historic Key Hall venue in downtown Schenectady. You can find their Real Wedding in the 2021 issue of VOW Magazine or by visiting https://storystudio.timesunion.com/vow-2021/

We recently caught up with the couple to hear about their wedding day….

Why did you select Key Hall at Proctors as your wedding venue?

Key Hall was one of the first places that we visited and we knew after our first walk through that we would get married there. Joe grew up in Schenectady so it was definitely home and I loved everything about Key Hall. The venue was beautiful and had the charm I was looking for without being too much. We wanted a simple space with room to dance and enjoy each other and Key Hall was exactly what we were looking for.

How did you make your day unique / special / personal?

By having it on New Year’s Eve! NYE held a special place in our hearts as Joe met my closest friends on that night when we first started dating so it felt fitting to pick NYE as our date. We partied throughout the night and welcomed in the New Year with all who were closest to us.

What was your most memorable moment?

Our first look and our first dance. We chose to do the first look prior to the ceremony so we could get the majority of our pictures done and out of the way. Which, I’m glad we did because the area all around Key Hall is picture perfect, even when it’s freezing out! Another memorable moment was just before our ceremony was to begin, as I was waiting in the bridal suite, everyone’s phones went off from a national weather alert for a snow squall that was moving through the area. It was ironic because of the unplugged ceremony sign we had at the entrance to turn off all phones until the ceremony was over!

What was your favorite food or beverage item?  Or How did you customize your wedding?

The Mini Philly Cheesesteaks during cocktail hour were our absolute favorite! We would have eaten those all night long! Since we had a NYE Wedding, we kept it simple and we just wanted to have fun! Our décor was simple, flowers minimal and our ceremony maybe lasted 7 minutes. We wanted to be declared Mr. & Mrs. and go have fun!

What was your favorite part about working with the Mazzone Team?

We worked primarily with Andrea Cole and she made everything extremely seamless and easy from the start. I had no stress during planning and she answered any questions we had quick and thoroughly. Our dedicated server/assistant the night of the wedding was attentive, courteous and overall great to work with. She got what we needed, when we needed it and even walked everything back to our hotel room with us at the end of the night next door to the Hampton Inn. Great service!

What tip would you give other couples?

Do what makes you happy but don’t stress over all of the little details! Things will go wrong but if you have a team good enough to have your back, you won’t even know anything went awry! If you choose a place you love and a team that you trust to see your vision and make it come true, all you will have to do is focus just on each other.

  • Quite an interesting post! I agree that the wedding venue and the planning team play the most important role in the success of a wedding. Every small thing that could go wrong can be avoided if you have the right team with you. And they can only help you if communicate honestly with them and set the right expectations right from the beginning.
