Tips: Wedding Traditions You Shouldn’t Feel Bad About Skipping

We get it. You want your wedding to seem like a wedding – just not like every other wedding that you’ve ever been to. Whether you’re a stickler for tradition or you consider yourself a modern day bride, REMEMBER: Your wedding day is supposed to be about you and your fiance, and every decision you make should reflect that. So, if you don’t want to walk down the aisle wearing white, then don’t, and if you want to steal a first look with your groom before the ceremony then do it, Below I’ve rounded up a few standard wedding rules that are totally okay to break!

Old School: You shouldn’t see each other until the ceremony
New Rule:
Schedule a “first look” photo shoot frees up more time after the ceremony so you can actually enjoy your cocktail hour, and it also lets you spend a few precious moments with your soon-to-be spouse before all the wedding craziness sets in. (Trust us; it will!)

Old School: Your wedding dress has to be white
New Rule:
You don’t have to go all out- you can still wear a white or ivory dress but don’t be afraid to add a pop of color with a sash, a piece of jewelry or even a pair of shoes.

Old School: Your bridesmaids should wear matching dresses
New Rule:
Let your girls’ individual personalities shine by having each one pick a dress that suits her own taste and shape. (but perhaps all in the same color family)

Old School: Having a tiered wedding cake
New Rule:
Although we love the traditional wedding cake, it is always fun to see weddings with a fun twist on things. Doing something totally out of the box, and serving a different dessert altogether is great. Think: Cupcake, or French Macaroon tower, Chocolate Foundue Fountain, or an entire buffet full of sweet treat options. No matter what is served, you can never go wrong with sweets!
