The summer season is finally upon on us here in the Capital Region! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and, most importantly, weddings are happening! With that being said, of course you can imagine how popular outdoor ceremonies and receptions are right now. Who wouldn’t want to take advantage of the lush, seasonal beauty this time of year? Open air or tented areas are only the basis of what kind of potential outdoor weddings can have. Here are some fun, festive ideas to get your creative juices flowing!

Signage

At outdoor weddings, typically the ceremony and reception all take place at the same location or venue. Many times, the grounds can be quite spacious and having the appropriate signs on display will help your guests get to their desired destination.

Beverage Station

During those awfully cold winter months, it is hard to imagine that the temperature will ever be warm again. However, once the summertime has arrived, we are reminded of just how hot and humid it can get here in the Capital District. Having beverage stations of infused water, iced tea, or lemonade out is a thoughtful way to keep your guests cool and hydrated during the heat of the summer.

Amenity Station

In addition to the warmer temperatures, there are also a few other factors to keep in mind when holding your wedding outdoors. We all love the sunshine, but we also want to be safe with from those sun rays. As it gets a little later into the evening, pesky mosquitoes can rear their ugly little heads. Having an amenity station is a great way to combat both of those small outdoor wedding factors.

Umbrellas

One of the staples of an outdoor wedding should be umbrellas! Rain or shine, umbrellas are somewhat of a necessity if you are considering an outdoor event, providing your guests with cover from the wet rain or hot sunshine. They are also great props for photos and décor!

Sunglasses

Along the same line of thinking as umbrellas, sunglasses also could be considered a main staple for an outdoor wedding. Umbrellas help shield you from the sun; sunglasses help shield your eyes. Also like umbrellas, having sunglasses available as photo props or favors is a wonderful idea that your guests will love and appreciate!

Having your ceremony programs displayed onto fans is a great two for one! Guests can keep cool while following along with the schedule of events taking place. It is also a great keepsake!

Under Cover

Many outdoor weddings take place underneath the cover of a tent. A tent is the perfect compromise between having an outdoor fete and wanting some of the perks of an indoor reception (overhead cover, walls, solid flooring). Once inside the tent, the décor options are endless! Florists and designers do an amazing job at reinventing the inside space of the tent. However, that does not mean that the outside of it has to be boring! When you think of tents, you think white, but that does not necessarily have to be the case. You can add colorful side panels to have the décor match inside and out!

Similarly, if you are having your actual ceremony completely outdoors (without cover), providing a little bit of shade for you guests is a thoughtful touch.

Outdoor Décor

There are so many different themes that could represent an outdoor wedding. Country rustic, nautical, or vintage inspired are a few of the great examples of themes for outdoor receptions. Here are some other fun, festive ideas to help enhance your outdoor wedding:

Lights
As we all know, lighting is a great transformative tool. It can be bold and help set the mood for an entire event or it can be a subtle added touch for a bit of ambiance. When using lights outdoors think twinkle lights and lanterns.

Photos

Photo Booths are so popular at weddings! Guests absolutely love it and the photos can be used as take home favors and/or as a guest sign in book. If having a photo booth at an outdoor wedding, a fun idea for décor is to have a tree trunk lined with string or wire and then have guests pin their photos around the tree. It’s both a personal and unique idea for outdoor décor!
